Optical lattice induced light shifts in an yb atomic clock.
We present an experimental study of the lattice-induced light shifts on the (1)S(0) --> (3)P(0) optical clock transition (nu(clock) approximately 518 THz) in neutral ytterbium. The "magic" frequency nu(magic) for the 174Yb isotope was determined to be 394 799 475(35) MHz, which leads to a first order light shift uncertainty of 0.38 Hz. We also investigated the hyperpolarizability shifts due to ...
متن کاملCoherent Control of Atomic Beam Diffraction by Standing Light Waves
Quantum interference is shown to deliver a means of regulating the diffraction pattern of a thermal atomic beam interacting with two standing wave electric fields. Parameters have been identified to enhance the diffraction probability of one momentum component over the others, with specific application to Rb atoms. PACS number(s): 32.80 Qk, 34.50 Dy, 39.20 +q, 39.25 +k, 03.75 Dg Typeset using R...
متن کاملPlasmon-enhanced Bragg diffraction
The diffraction from a single periodic metallic grating is shown to be significantly modified when a surfaceplasmon polariton wave is excited at the metal-dielectric interface. In particular, vanishing diffraction orders in accordance with scalar diffraction theory, are generated in the presence of the surface wave. This modification is analytically explained, and a plasmonic Bragg law is formu...
متن کاملDouble diffraction in an atomic gravimeter
We demonstrate the realization of a new scheme for cold atom gravimetry based on the use of double diffraction beamsplitters recently demonstrated in [1], where the use of two retro-reflected Raman beams allows symmetric diffraction in ±h̄keff momenta. Though in principle restricted to the case of zero Doppler shift, for which the two pairs of Raman beams are simultaneously resonant, we demonstr...
متن کاملDiffraction of a superfluid fermi gas by an atomic grating.
An atomic grating generated by a pulsed standing-wave laser field is proposed to manipulate the superfluid state in a quantum degenerate gas of fermionic atoms. We show that in the presence of atomic Cooper pairs, the density oscillations of the gas caused by the atomic grating exhibit a much longer coherence time than that in the normal Fermi gas. Our result indicates that the technique of a p...
